The best dupe for the Capri Blue Volcano candle is the Walmart Red Lava and Citrus candle by Better Homes & Gardens. When you actually smell the two candles side by the side, they are identical. The only difference is the price ($34 for Volcano versus $11.58 for Red Lava & Citrus). The other 5 Volcano “dupes” that I list below are more like cousins than twins. They all either have the citrus notes or the tropical vibes, but they don’t match the exact combination of fragrance notes in the Volcano candle.

Red Lava and Citrus is definitely the way to go if you’re looking for a true match, but there are several other recommendations floating around the Internet so I tried them all and compiled a full list in order of best to worst match. This is a subject that I clearly care way too much about because Volcano is my favorite candle of all time (and you can read my review here!). I highly recommend trying it out, but if you don’t want to spend $34 on a candle, here are all of the affordable alternatives.
#1 Walmart – Better Homes & Gardens Red Lava & Citrus
As I said before, Walmart is the place to go if you’re looking for the best Volcano dupe. The Better Homes & Gardens Red Lava and Citrus candle is as close to an exact match as you can get. It only costs $11.58 which makes it a third of the price. It’s an 18 ounce candle so you’re getting a large candle with 52 hours of burn time. This is a 2-wick candle in a beautiful frosted red jar and I love the wooden lid that comes with it.

The only difference to Volcano is that it has a slightly weaker cold throw BUT once you get it burning, I promise you that it smells the exact same. It even has a similar shape to the Volcano candle. I prefer this bell jar design to the straight sided tumblers used by the other candles I have listed below. This one is also larger than most of the other options below. For the price, size, jar design, and fragrance match, my #1 recommendation is Red Lava & Citrus. If you only try one candle from this post, it should be this one.
#2 Home Goods – Red Leaf Home Midnight Citrus
TikTok told me to look for a Volcano candle dupe at Home Goods, but I was so confused by what I found. The Midnight Citrus candle by Red Leaf Home was highly recommended, but it comes in several different jars and they all smelled different! The version in the white jar did smell very similar to Volcano. It’s just as fruity and tropical, but smells like a slightly weaker candle overall.
The blue and the amber versions of this candle smelled completely different from the white jar. The thing to know about Volcano is that it’s a citrus candle but specifically has “sugared citrus” notes. It’s sweet, but not noticeably tart. These blue and amber versions were more tart in my opinion so they didn’t feel like a good match.

I want to recommend the Midnight Citrus candle from Home Goods as an option, but since there wasn’t much consistency between the different jars, I can’t confidently say that you should check these out. If you can find the white version at your local Home Goods, try it out and let me know what you think.
#3 Trader Joe’s – Mango Tangerine
Trader Joe’s has a solid Volcano candle dupe. This is the cheapest option on the list at $3.99, but note that it is on the smaller side. It’s a 5.7 ounce candle that comes in a small metal tin. This is also a seasonal candle so you can only buy this at Trader Joe’s during the summer.
The fragrance is a good match to the sugared citrus and tropical fruit notes in Volcano. Whereas Volcano kind of packs a punch, Mango Tangerine is lighter in comparison. It is basically a muted version of Volcano.
Because of its size, it’s best to burn in small spaces like bathrooms. If you burn this in a larger room, you will not get the full effect. Even though I don’t consider it to be an exact dupe, it has very similar vibes and is a great candle. I stock up on several every summer.

#4 Target – Opalhouse Bali Sunrise
There’s a decent Volcano candle dupe at Target from their Opalhouse line. It’s called Bali Sunrise. I would definitely consider this to be more of a cousin than a twin. The guava and pineapple notes give it the tropical fruit vibes of Volcano, but it’s missing a true citrus element so it smells closer to fruit punch in my opinion. It is a great candle – strong hot throw, smells sweet without being sickly sweet, and very affordable. That said, if you’re looking for an exact match you might want to skip this one.
I have also seen people compare the Opalhouse Island Moonlight candle to Volcano, but I have to disagree. Island Moonlight has notes of “grapefruit and marine waters” and it’s that second note that disqualifies this from being a true dupe. Volcano doesn’t have any aquatic notes to it.
If you’re determined to get something close to Volcano at Target, opt for Bali Sunrise over Island Moonlight.

#5 Bath & Body Works – Midnight Blue Citrus
I’ve seen a lot of people recommend Midnight Blue Citrus as a dupe for Volcano and I am here to disagree after smelling them side by side. It gets close, but is missing the true Volcano scent blend. It does have “juicy citrus” and “sweet mango” notes, but it is also mixed with a “spring water” note that makes it noticeably different. I think the spring water is what makes it a lot less sweet than Volcano.
I also have to note that this candle is $26.95 which is close enough to the price of Volcano that I would recommend spending the extra 8-ish dollars to get the real thing. That said, Bath & Body Works does have a lot of sales so if you are wanting to try this out, wait for a good sale.
Side note: If you’re looking for a Midnight Blue Citrus dupe, the Target Opal House Island Moonlight candle that I mentioned earlier would be the perfect choice.

To me, this candle feels like what you would get if Volcano had a baby with the Bath & Body Works Ocean candle. I think you’ll like this candle if you’re a Volcano fan, but the spring water overpowers the citrus and mango notes in a way that makes this disappointing if you’re expecting a true dupe.
#6 TJ Maxx – Storm
TikTok also told me to search for a Volcano dupe at TJ Maxx. The Scentsational Storm candle is a popular recommendation but again, this candle is NOT a good dupe. It smelled very perfume-y and was not at all heavy on the citrus. If I didn’t read the fragrance notes on the jar, I wouldn’t actually believe that this is supposed to have citrus in it at all. Supposedly, the notes are “tangerine, blackberry, and guava finished with sugar cane and a grassy breeze”. The sugar cane aspect would make you think that it would match the sugary notes of Volcano, but it just doesn’t.
I picked up every jar of Storm at my local TJ Maxx to make sure that I wasn’t missing something. Sometimes you get a candle from a bad batch, but not a single one of the Storm candles in the store smelled like Volcano. I have no idea why people are making the comparison. Not only is this not a twin, but I wouldn’t even call this a cousin. Maybe it’s a step-sister? It shares no DNA with Volcano.
![white-scentsational-storm-candle-on-shelf](https://candleculture.blog/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/IMG_1262-576x768.jpg)
TJ Maxx also has the Sand and Fog Tropical Citrus candle. I tested it out and it has no cold throw. Again, I tried multiple jars in the store, but could not get a good sense of this candle’s scent. Maybe it smells better when lit, but I doubt it. There was a DW Home Citrus Lemon candle that felt like a better option to me, but again, not an exact match. I would just skip TJ Maxx entirely if you’re in search of a Volcano dupe.
Volcano Candle Dupe Price/Size Comparison
Here is how all of the Capri Blue Volcano Dupes compare on price and size:

Capri Blue Volcano Candle | 19 ounces | $34.00 |
Better Homes & Gardens Red Lava & Citrus | 18 ounces | $11.58 |
Bath & Body Works Midnight Citrus | 14.5 ounces | $26.95 |
Target Opalhouse Bali Sunrise | 15.1 ounces | $10.00 |
Trader Joe’s Mango Tangerine | 5.7 ounces | $3.99 |
Red Leaf Home Midnight Citrus | Varies by Design | $10.00-$20.00 (depending on the jar) |
